Sketchbooks Part II: The Easy Sketchbook

DIY Easy- Peasy Lemon Squeezy Sketchbook

It's been only hours since my last post but it was a long one. Now, pay attention. Have you figured out my theme for this one? It's lemons. Because why not. This one is going to be a lot easier than the fancy one and what a cute theme! Before you start to make the sketchbook, make some LEMONADE!

Materials

  • Lemonade with fancy umbrella- for drinking because we're vibing here with the lemons theme
  • Manila folder- I took this from the organizer for one of my classes because I wanted a colorful cover so there. Sorry, not sorry 5th grade. I'll get you a new cute one on Monday.
  • 10 sheets of sketchbook paper- I chose the 8.5 by 11 paper from my dusty-looking printer.
  • Cute tape(s)- I have my archival white tape for prints, pink painter's tape for fun, and a washi tape I found because we're optimistic about the amount of tape decoration.
  • Crayons- Something to color the lemons for our cover with
  • Stapler With STAPLES in it- It took a while to find the staples but we're good.
  • Scissors- Why are they so hard to find? Where do they go? Do they hang out with my lost earring backs and socks? We may never know.
  • Pens- to doodle with and draw lines
  • Ruler- Straight edges are just for emo kids. You don't want your sketchbook to look unkempt.

Optional

    • Cutting Mat-so you don't scratch your kitchen table with the staples
    • Paper Slicer-for when you're bad at scissors but you have the technology
    • Better stapler for when the first one breaks
    • Hammer for when the other stapler breaks

Instructions

  1. Drink lemonade and use the fancy umbrella as a hair accessory.
  2. Fold the papers in half, hamburger style.
  3. Line up your folds together: the folded papers go INSIDE the folder.
  4. Sip lemonade but don't get the condensation on your work area. You should probably use a coaster or a cup with a lid.
  5. Unhinge your stapler and staple from the inside of your sketchbook so your staples line up with the fold line.
  6. Break the stapler but make it work.
  7. Fix the staples with a hammer.
  8. Tape over those ugly staples on the spine of your new sketchbook.
  9. Wrap the tape over the edges.
  10. Add finishing touches to your design with tape or colors.
  11. Evaluate your work.
  12. Decide you dont like it so take off the extra tape.
  13. Enjoy your masterpiece and have a sip of lemonade.
  14. Disco Clean up! Fin.
